Bobi Wine Against Gov’t Helping Artistes With Money

December 14, 2023

Singer cum politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine is not supporting the idea of government helping Ugandan musicians with money.

He said the issue in the music industry is not money but the copyright law which allows an artiste to earn from their works.

For a long time, artistes have been begging the government to help them. During Covid19 lockdown the entertainment industry was among the last sectors to be opened.

Artistes suffered because they couldn’t earn from their works. Before Covid19 lockdown Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) had already been formed but it wasn’t that active.

After Covid19 lockdown, it started becoming more active but musicians were not helped like they expected.

Mud this year 2023, Eddy Kenzo decided to have his own federation. It has been very active as he has engaged so many government stake holders.

He recently met the president of Uganda and after the meeting he talked to his artistes saying there is hope that things are getting more better.

There has been rumour that with Eddy Kenzo’s efforts, government is looking at giving artistes some money worth billions.

According to Bobi Wine, he doesn’t support that. He said the only thing government can do is to enforce the copyright law and artistes start earning for themselves in their works.
