Singer Evelyne Nakabira aka Evelyne Lagu has passed on this morning at her home in Nabugabo after a long battle with Chronic Kidney and heart diseases.

The news of her passing was confirmed by her son, Freddie Kasavu via her social media accounts.

After a year battling with illness and selling almost all her properties, Lagu cried out for help.

In March 2020, President Yoweri Museveni intervened and ordered events promoter, Balaam Barugahara to transfer Evelyn Lagu to Nakasero Hospital to receive better treatment.

On April 2020, she was discharged from Nakasero Hospital where she had been admitted for 10 days. Balaam revealed that president Museveni paid 50m in hospital bills.

Lagu got back on her feet and seemed stable. However, in November 2020, Lagu suffered a set back and was admitted again.

Her condition deteriorated which prompted well wishers to organise a fundraiser at Mesach Semakula’s Papaz Spot Restaurant, Makindye in February 2021.

Renown traditional healer, Sylvia Namutebi aka Mama Fina, Pastor Wilson Bugembe 2m. Other celebrities; Sophie Nantongo, King Michael, Ronald Mayinja among others attended and contributed too.

After soliciting money from other well wishers, In June 2021, Lagu with her son, Freddie Kasavu flew to Turkey. Her son had offered to giver her one of his Kidneys.

Before the operation, Evelyne was to undergo tests to verify the safety of the operation. However, the doctors advised her not undergo kidney transplant and instead told her to cough $20,000 for treatment.

After almost a month in Turkey, Lagu returned to Uganda and has been undergoing routine dialysis.

Evelyne Lagu has been surviving on handouts and she was planning to stage a concert to get funds to facilitate her treatment.

Unfortunately, she died this morning. May she rest in eternal peace.
