Chelsea end Liverpool’s treble dream

March 4, 2020

Chelsea knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues progressed to the quarter-finals thanks to goals from Willian and Ross Barkley. Two defeats in four days for Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp and his men aren’t used to this feeling.

Looking at Klopp’s selections in the previous rounds you could argue that he has not taken the FA Cup seriously at any point this season.

However, the opportunity of winning a treble would surely have been on the mind of him and his players going into this game.Their quest for a first title in 30 years shouldn’t be harmed by this recent run of poor form but the manner of the performances will certainly worry the German.

They look like they have lost their rhythm and are appearing blunt when going forward.Liverpool have conceded eight goals in their last four games having previously only conceded eight goals in their previous 17.

It’s far too early to call any sort of form a crisis but the look of the team since returning from the winter break will concern Klopp. With Atlético Madrid on the horizon, something needs to change quickly.
