Ykee Benda Succumbs To Pressure, Resigns As UMA President

Singer, Wycliffe Tugume aka Ykee Benda has confirmed he will resign as Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) president.

Ykee Benda who was the vice to Sophie Gombya, was sworn in as the president after the latter resigned for the position in June to fully concentrate on her political career.

After assuming the position as the president, Eddy Kenzo questioned his leadership abilities which the ‘Kyenkyebula’ singer termed as disrespect.

Ykee faced the wrath of angry Ugandans when he advocated for the release of Nigerian singers, Omah Lay and Tems and kept a deaf ear following Nubian Li’s arrest.

Omah Lay and Tems were arrested for performing at an illegal concert in Munyonyo during Covid-19 concerts ban.

Pressure mounted on Ykee after telling tweeps that Nubian Li was not locked on Twitter and reminded them that he is not the one giving out bails.

NUP sympathisers and angry Ugandans hurled all sorts of abuses at Ykee Benda as other accused him of rape.

Ykee also lost it and exchanged bitter words with the Tweeps. Some critics told him to resign arguing that a leader can’t behave like the way he did.

Today, Ykee took to his social media accounts and confirmed that he will be resigning from the position as UMA president.

I will be stepping down soon as President of UMA as I will communicate through my PR. After 3 months of deep thought and advise from the people I trust.
They need someone else. Admin”, Ykee Benda’s social media accounts posted.

Cindy who is Ykee’s vice will be acting as the UMA president until association elect a new president.
