Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, the senior pastor at House of Prayer Ministries International (Canan Land) on Monday snubbed police summons.

Bugingo was last week summoned to appear at Kawempe Police Station to answer criminal charges of contracting a new marriage after his wife, Teddy Naluswa recorded a statement.

Teddy accuses her husband of bigamy, the act of going through a marriage ceremony while already married to another person. Bugingo is facing charges of bigamy under section 153 of the Penal Code.

The Section states: “Any person who, having a husband or wife living, goes through a marriage ceremony which is void by reason of it taking place during the life of such husband or wife, commits a felony and is liable to imprisonment for five years.”

A source privy to the case told Routineblast that Bugingo wrote to the Police, saying he was not able to appear and asked for more time. It is not clear when he is scheduled to appear at the Police.

The purpose of the summons, according to the source, was for Bugingo to explain to the Police the allegation against him and to aid in the investigations.

Bugingo filed for divorce at Kajjansi Chief Magistrates’ Court in 2019 after word started making rounds that he was eating his employee, Susan Makula Nantaba.

However, Teddy Nasulwa vowed never to divorce Bugingo citing Mark 10:1–12 and Matthew 19:1–12 “what God has joined together, let no one separate”.

Following several attempts to reconcile the pair in vain, Dr Justice Joseph Murangira set January 25, 2022, to hear their divorce case at the Family Division of the High Court sitting in Makindye, Kampala.

In bid to legalise his relationship with Makula, a fed up Bugingo did not wait for the court decision. On November 26th, he officially visited Makula’s family in Kyebando – a Kampala surbub.

This was followed by the introduction ceremony that took place in Kawuku, Katabi town council in Wakiso district on December 7th.

After the introduction, city lawyer Male Mabirizi Kiwanuka filed a case against the pair and are set to appear at Entebbe Chief Magistrates’ Court on December 22.
