Aston Villa have completed the £10million signing of striker Mbwana Samatta from Genk.

Samatta joins on a four-and-a-half year deal, with the move subject to a work permit and international clearance being granted.

Villa boss Dean Smith told the club’s official website: ‘I’m really pleased we have managed to bring Mbwana to the club.’

His contract will take him to 2024, with the deal subject to a work permit being granted

‘He has scored goals throughout his career and I’m looking forward to working with him.’

Now aged 27, Samatta started out at Simba FC and then joined TP Mazembe prior to signing for Genk in 2016.

Samatta has scored 76 goals in 191 appearances for Genk and is also the captain of his country Tanzania, for whom he has scored 18 times in 51 games.

He was on the scoresheet against Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this season.

Samatta will provide Villa with some much-needed additional attacking firepower, with Wesley set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

He is the third arrival at Villa Park this month following the loan signings of Danny Drinkwater and Pepe Reina from Chelsea and AC Milan respectively.
