Arsenal hierarchy keen to welcome Wenger back

Arsene wenger for Holland Job

The Arsenal hierarchy are keen to welcome Arsene Wenger back to the Emirates Stadium, according to reports.

The Mirror claim senior figures at Arsenal are making inroads to talk Arsene Wenger into coming back to the club. They think it would help garner support among the fans and are also in talks over making a statue for Wenger at the ground.

Though the wording in the article is vague (perhaps deliberately), it looks like they’re only suggesting a return to visit the stadium and attend a game, rather than actually offering the old manager any kind of position working for the club.

As we know, Wenger currently works for FIFA as their chief of global football development. He is leading a global program to offer member federations expert analysis of their technical ecosystem against worldwide standards, before helping them to implement tailor-made technical programs from 2021 based on that analysis.

This program is almost certainly going to keep Wenger too busy for another job at Arsenal. As for a one-off return to watch the team play, that’s another matter.

If he wanted to, Wenger could surely make time for a game. It’s just whether he thinks that’s in Arsenal’s interest. The argument against his return is obviously that it’s an unnecessary distraction for the players. Then again, it could work as motivation.

Until the former boss does make his return to the Emirates, we won’t know.
