Uganda Cranes Players Remind President Museveni To Fulfill $1m AFCON Pledge

The Uganda Cranes players led by captain, Denis Masinde Onyango have reminded president Museveni to honour his $1m pledge after the team reached Round of 16 at the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt for the first time since 1978.

Denis Onyango, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, Farouk Miya, Moses Waiswa, Allan Kyambadde, Nicholas Wadada, William Kizito Luwagga, Lumala Abdul, Moses Waiswa, Tadeo Lwanga, Salim Jamal and many more took to their Twitter handles and Tweeted similar message, reminding the president its high time he full filed his promise.

“REMINDER: Yoweri Kaguta Museveni In these tough Covid-19 times, we find the timing right to remind you about the $1m promise after AFCON last year. We feel frustrated & unhappy our token of appreciation hangs in balance. Pliz intervene”, Onyango tweeted.

President Museveni made the promise on July 9th 2019 when the team visited the State House upon returning from Egypt.

It should be noted that Uganda Cranes fell short of the AFCON quarter finals after losing 1-0 to Senegal at the round of 16 stage.

At the group stage, Uganda had conquered DR Congo 2-0, drew with Zimbabwe 1-1 before losing 2-0 to hosts Egypt.
