Thomas Partey will have his first training session with the Arsenal squad on Friday in a race against time to be passed fit against Tottenham.

The Ghanaian midfielder has been on the sidelines for almost a month after sustaining a thigh injury against Aston Villa at the start of November.

Thomas Partey ‘s injury was confirmed as being worse than first feared after he didn’t travel with Ghana over the international break and he will now take part in a training session with the team a couple of days before Sunday’s Premier League match.

“Well, he’s putting a lot of pressure on us,” said Arteta.

“He’s training tomorrow with us and let’s see how it goes in the next couple of days.”

Arteta emphasised before the win over Rapid Vienna on Thursday that he wants to be cautious with Partey’s situation.

“He’s been been training separately in the last week or so we have to scan him again to see how he’s feeling. He’s a player that’s so willing that he’s pushing us every day because he wants to do it.

“At the same time we have to protect and make sure that when he gets back into the team he’s ready to do that to whatever extent that we can use him.

“So this week is going to be crucial, the moment he’s going to start to train with the team to see how he’s feeling and how he’s evolving day to day.”

Arsenal travel across north London to face their rivals on Sunday off the back of five league defeats from eight games.
