2021 MTV MAMA Awards

On February 20th last month, Kampala was supposed to host live-streamed virtual MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA’s) for the first time but they never happened.

On February 4th MTV took to Twitter and announced that the awards were postponed indefinitely.

“MTV Base is postponing the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards. We will keep fans updated as we have more news”.

MTV posted on February 4th.

The awards were fought by Bobi Wine’s bankrollers Jeffrey Smith and Robert Amsterdam who asked the organizers to reconsider the event.

“By holding a global awards show in partnership with #Uganda’s dictatorship, @MTVBaseAfrica will not only be lending itself to whitewashing the regime’s crimes but also implicate all nominated artists,”

Jeffrey Smith posted.

After the postponement, word started making rounds that Uganda had paid insane amount to host the awards in the name of promoting tourism.

This was regarded as a rumour until recently when Auditor General’s report revealed that Ugx 10,440,000,000 was advanced to a foreign firm for hosting the MTV Africa Music Awards.
