The Blazing Hot 100 FM

Bukoto-based, radio station – Hot 100 has finally closed shop like as we told you in an exclusive investigation in November 2021.

In a statement dated 11th March 2022, Hot 100 alerted its clients and fans about the discontinuation of their broadcasting services as a radio.

Hot 100 FM, a sister to Radio Simba, broadcasting on frequency 100.9 MHz has been in service for over 20 years.

It started as an urban youth station majoring in Hip Hop and RnB with talented presenters; Bryan McKenzie, Rebecca Namitala aka Lady Bezo, Byg Kahuna among others.

They pioneered music genre and culture ‘Luga-flow’ that helped GNL Zamba, Mun G rise into the ranks.

All was well until the likes of Bryan McKenzie and Lady Bezo quit. The station started struggling and in bid to match the competition, they rebranded into a comedy station, hired comedians such as Collins Emeka, Tumu Siime but still failed to pick up.

Since media houses make money through adverts, Hot 100 found themselves in trouble due to poor Return On Investment (ROI) of the business.

Yesterday, they issued a statement and confirmed closure.

Read the statement below:

Dear Clients and Fans,

Over the last 20 years, we have entertained you – the young, wild and free – with a fresh mix of urban hip music, entertainment and news.

We pioneered a trendy Ugandan radio format that led to the rise of an urban home-grown music genre and culture – “Luga-flow”. Along the way, we popularized Ugandan hip hop artistes with radio airplay, concerts and dance parties.

While we have truly enjoyed doing this, we believe that the time has come for us to move on and perhaps continue to serve you in different ways, using newer and more efficient platforms. Platforms that may increase engagement and value.

Therefore, with effect from 11th March 2022, we will discontinue our official broadcasts as HOTIOO on the frequency 100.9 MHz.

To our advertisers, our team will be reaching out to you, to ensure that all reconciliations and contractual obligations are concluded, hassle-free.

We do thank you all for your support through the years, and for the confidence you placed in HOTIOO.
