People Power Dismiss Talk That Bobi Wine Has Dropped 2021 Presidential Ambition

June 6, 2020

People Power has dismissed rumours that their leader Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine has dropped his ambition to run for presidential seat in the upcoming 2021 general elections.

The rumour was started by online political critic and blogger, Tom Voltaire Okwalinga who in his Facebook post claims the Kyadondo East legislator has agreed with his foreign funders and close associates that he will not stand for presidency come 2021, but he is instead going to build his movement further and prepare for a run in 2026.

Read Okwalinga’s dossier:

“The leader of people power movement Hon Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, has agreed with his foreign funders and close associates that he will not stand for presidency come 2021, but he is instead going to build his movement further and prepare for a run in 2026. This decision followed lengthy talks with these people, during which they reached a decision that Bobi Wine should stand again as a member of parliament in 2021 to remain influential as he prepares for 2021, and concentrate on building his movement which he will in future register as a political party, as he targets the 2026 elections. According to the intel, I was provided with, they were four issues that were motivation to reaching this decision, One was the fact that M7 was determined not to allow him to reach out to the rest of the country in the remaining time to elections, and secondly that the time lost in the Coronavirus lockdown made it impossible for him to expand his structures in preparation for any serious contest and thirdly that there was no way a fair election could be organized by Museveni. Lastly there was concern in that many of the original high profile supporters of Bobi Wine from other political parties had since developed cold feet and abandoned him. They premised on another expectation that M7 may not be part of 2026 elections. THERE IS MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION I WAS GIVEN , BUT WHICH IF DISCLOSED CAN LEAD TO THE SOURCE BEING UNEARTHED. THIS INTEL IS 100 PERCENT FACTUAL”, Okwalinga’s post.

Okwalinga’s post was jumped on by the online news websites but People Power spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi moved fast and dismissed the talk by calling it fake news.

“This is fake news, treat it with the contempt it deserves”, Ssenyonyi tweeted.
