Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Court has further remanded Mosh Ssendi aka Mr Mosh and other 9 National Unity Platform (NUP) councillors over illegal protest.

The councillors stormed the streets on February 3, 2022 donning T-Shirts written on ‘Omutembeyi Ssimuyeekera (a hawker is not a rebel), protesting the eviction of street vendors.

The police arrested, paraded them in court and were remanded to Kitalya and Kigo prisons.

The remanded included; the Speaker Zahara Luyirika, the Deputy Speaker Nasur Masaba, and councilors Faisal Kibirige, Gadhafi Nasur, Mushin Kakande, Winnie Nansubuga, Faisal Ssebayiga, Mosh Ssendi Afrikan, Paul Kato, Richard Sembatya, Rose Kigozi Nalubwama, Moses Kataabu, Fausta Bitaano, and the personal assistant to the speaker Aksam Ssemakula.

The Councillors appeared on Zoom waiting for bail application

The councilors today appeared on zoom waiting for bail application but unfortunately, only four ladies were granted a cash bail of Shs.500,000 and Shs.2 million non-cash to their sureties.

Some of the sureties in court today

The released are Zahara Luyirika, Winnie Nafuka, Fausta Bitalo and Kigozi Ruth. Grade One Magistrate gave them bail on grounds that they are women and need to take care of their families, including one who has a two months old baby.

Mr Mosh and nine other councillors were denied bail on grounds that that the letters presented from their sureties are not within their jurisdiction, the letters were from KCCA and not the Buganda Road Court.

The state also argued that the Councillors would use their influence to interfere with the ongoing exercise of evicting street vendors from Kampala City Centre.

They have been remanded further until February 14. We hope they don’t miss out on Valentines drill.
