Legendary singer, Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone lost the Kampala Lord Mayoral seat in the recent concluded elections to the incumbent, Erias Lukwago.

Chameleone who had crossed with a number of DP members to the National Unity Platform (NUP) led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, found himself stranded, confused after NUP denied him the party flag and handed it to Latif Ssebagala and later to Nabilah Nagayi Ssempala.

In the end, the ‘Bayuda’ hitmaker, contested as an independent and came in 4th place with 12,212 votes behind Eria Lukwago (60,082), Nabilah Naggayi Sempala (60,082) and Daniel Kazibwe alias Ragga Dee (23,388 votes).

Lukwago won the Kampala Lord Mayor elections

This was a shocker for Chameleone who many thought his fame and influence would enable him win like Bobi Wine in 2017 Kyadondo East by-election.

In an interview, Chameleone maintained that he is still a member of National Unity Platform (NUP) and will contest for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat in 2026 general elections.

The ‘Basima Ogenze’ singer claims he lost because his votes were switched and given to Lukwago.
