The Minister for Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda has confirmed that the body of Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah will be flown back into the country this Friday, April 1.

Oulanyah died on March 20, 2022 in Seattle, USA, where he had been admitted with cancer-related complications in February.

President Yoweri Museveni appointed Ms. Babalanda to head the burial arrangement committee to accord the fallen speaker a befitting send-off.

Fellow Ugandans, I wish to confirm that the body of our beloved Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah will arrive in Uganda this Friday

She noted that subsequent to the body’s arrival into the country, there will be a series of weeklong activities preceding the burial in Omoro.

We are yet to know the exact date for the burial but we hear it could be next Monday.

President Museveni last week directed that the Ugandan flag, one for the East African Community and all flags in Uganda should be flown at half-mast at all public buildings and public grounds to mourn  the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah.

Following his death, Member of parliament voted a new speaker and deputy in accordance with the Constitution.

Anita Annet Among who was Oulanya’s deputy is the new Speaker while Thomas Tayebwa resigned from his opposition as NRM chief whip to win Deputy Speaker seat.
