Government critic and toxic blogger, Fred Lumbuye Kajubi has been cleared to be released from Turkish detention centre today according to his lawyers.

Lumbuye was arrested by Turkish authorities on August 3rd for lack of proper documents after his working visa and passport expired.

After his arrest, word spread that the government of Uganda was working tirelessly to extradite him and answer charges related to defamation, computer misuse among others.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Oryem Okello told Ugandans that plans were in place to extradite the ‘toxic’ blogger. On the day Ugandans waited patiently to see a guy who has been spreading toxic news on social media, he never showed up.

His whereabouts remained a mystery as some bloggers started speculating that he was being held in Gulu.

Kyadondo East MP and Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Opposition Muwada Nkunyingi contacted the Turkish embassy in Uganda and he was informed that Lumbuye Kajjubi was being held in Turkey.

He manage to locate him and confirmed that he was being detained at Koceli Vililigi foreigners’ detention center, in Turkish city of Istanbul.
