Barcelona are yet to make a new contract offer to Lionel Messi.

Marca conversations have been had, but the Argentine International is yet to receive an offer that he can look over and decide upon. All with just 21 days to go before he becomes a free agent.

Joan Laporta is clear about the offer he wants to make to Messi, and he has been for weeks. He wants to offer a two-year renewal with a 50 million euro gross salary per year – which is around half of his current pay.

Then, there would be a 10-year offer for Lionel Messi to take up an ambassadorial role for the club, which would see him earn ten million euros.

The president has explained some of these terms to Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, but nothing has been set in stone.

In Barca president Joan Laporta’s own words, the contract talks are ‘going well’ but it is ‘not done’. However, for all intents and purposes, it looks as though Messi will be staying at the club for the rest of his career in Europe, less than a year after he formally asked to leave last August.

With three weeks left, Messi’s contract is no closer to being signed.
