Antonio Conte is reportedly open to becoming the next Man Utd manager – but only if the club demonstrates willingness to win the Champions League.

The highly-regarded Italian has been out of work and linked with the Old Trafford hot seat since May, when he left Inter Milan after winning Serie A.

Prior to his two-season stint with the Italian giants, Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title and FA Cup during a successful stint at Stamford Bridge.

His decorated CV also includes three Serie A titles from his time with Juventus and there has been growing clamour for the proven 52-year-old to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United.

A mixed start to the season has raised questions of whether Solskjaer, now into his third full season, is capable of winning a first trophy as United boss.

Conte is interested in succeeding the Norwegian so long as the Red Devils hierarchy match his ambition to win the Champions League.

That is according to journalist Duncan Castles, who claims Zinedine Zidane is also in the running for the United job having departed Real Madrid at the end of last season.

“I think there are two obvious candidates in terms of coaches who have achieved at the top level of the game, who are out of work and would be available to Manchester United without compensation fees,” Castles told Reach’s The Transfer Window podcast .

“One is Zinedine Zidane and one is Antonio Conte. Conte’s position, I’m told, is that he is interested in the Manchester United job but not without restrictions.

“Antonio Conte, when he chooses his next club, wants a club where he can win the Champions League.

“He wants to demonstrate, he’s wanted to do it for a long time, that he is one of the very best coaches in world football. To do that he knows he has to win the Champions League.
